I am sure this is pretty hot in demand. The video for his talk is coming soon; please bear with us!

Comments (0)It was a hot Saturday afternoon on the 24th May, but that didn’t stop a group of game enthusiasts from making their way to the MICA building under the less-than-comfortable heat.
The auditorium saw a capacity crowd consisting of not just programmers and game designers, but artists, business students, film producers and even writers like myself, all eager to find out more about game design!
|
The first speaker for the event was Razer’s Product Director, Mr. Theo Sanders. |

A former producer at Blizzard, Mr. Sanders worked on titles like World of Warcraft. “The difficulty in talking about game design is that there are so many areas to talk about,” Mr. Sanders said. Deciding on something which would cover multiple game genres, Mr. Sanders talked about ‘punish’ and ‘reward’ systems, citing examples like Unreal Tournament’s ’spree’ and Team Fortress 2’s ‘nemesis’ systems.

The second part of the event saw Kun Xin, coordinator of the IGDASSC, presenting a selection of the many game development tools available to budding developers. |
“You don’t need a million dollars to get started,” he said as he introduced an assortment of tools ranging from free to affordable. Some tools, like RPG Maker XP, caught the attention of the audience more than others!
| Des, a project officer at Nanyang Technological University, found the event humorous, yet informative. | ![]() |
“It explored the psychology behind the games which are being made,” she said. Above all, Des found the event, true to the spirit of games, a fun experience!

Comments (0)A big thanks to everyone who turned up for the meeting on the 24th May. We are thrilled to see so many students and people from the industry and please, try to forget the corny voices from the videos
The first part of the aftermaths is the slides I had for my talk. Don’t worry, Mr Sanders will be sending us his slides soon too
You can download the slides here.
And yes, do remember the special offer for the ExoroGame workshop! If you are interested, RSVP now! Remember, we need to hit at least 30 to 40 people!
Comments (0)Hi all,
ExoroGame(tm) is a real-time business strategy game, independent of any luck and hence success lies in your own hands! This game teaches the basics of business and the running of a company, and usually a session would cost each participant around $50.00 each!
However, our friends at ExoroGame(tm) has kindly agreed to organise a special workshop for us at a cost of $12.20 per participant (that is like, less than watching a movie on a weekend plus popcorns). Developing games is one thing; selling them is another. So if you wish to find out more about the business aspects, do consider joining us.
We have room for 40 people, and we have to reach that quota
So don’t hesitate, RSVP now and grab your friends along!

Game Maker and lots of other freeware game engines are pixel-based art, and making pixel art for them could be a lost Dark Art in the years to come. So if you are interested in pixel-based sprites, you can find some really nice read-ups on the theory of pixel art and some concrete tutorials at “So you want to be a pixel artist?”
