Joining Us

Return to [About the IGDA.SSC]

Are you a student with a passion for games development, game design (computer, pen and paper, card or board) or modifying existing games? Then we welcome you to join the IGDA Singapore Student Chapter. It is voluntary and informal.

If you are interested, you can register via the main page to keep yourself updated of any new posts. If you are keen to interact with other members, there is the forum which you should consider joining. Finally, if you are just interested in our significant events, you can just join the YahooGroup mailing list to keep yourself updated of really world-shaking news.

There is also no obligation or membership requirement, unless you choose to do so. You can be just a casual member and come down for our activities, or be more proactive and help out in the organising of events and leading of projects. We understand that being students, we have CCAs, Hall Activities (if you are from an university) and of course, assignments and dreaded examinations.

You are not required to have any technical background, existing portfolio or be in a relevant course.

We believe that anyone, with the dedication, research, effort and initiative, will be able to create their own games (within realistic expectations, of course). Many members within the IGDA Singapore Student Chapter can attest to that. As long as your interest is in creating games - be it modifications, card games, board games, pen and paper role-playing games, forum-run games, newsletter games, casual Flash games or computer games, and wish to join a group of like-minded people, you’re welcomed!

We’ll be posting our events on this site regularly. If you want to come down and get to know us, just send us an email or post in our discussion forum.

Why Join Us?
In Short,

  1. Meeting like-minded people
  2. Realising games together
  3. Pooling resources
  4. Exposure and education

We believe that the Singapore games industry has talent, it’s just that we are all scattered about, trying to realise our passions by ourselves with our own limited time and resources. We hope that this can change with the IGDASCC, where you get to meet like-minded people and hopefully, form game development teams. We wouldn’t force people to do projects for the sake of doing projects, we’ll let it be an organic and spontaneous thing.

The IGDASSC will be active in bringing speakers in the industry and conduct workshops on games development, game design and prototyping and such. Likewise, we’ll also try to broaden the perspective of members, so that we have better ideas for our games.

All in all, the benefits are intangible than they are tangible. We suggest you join us for a casual activity and find out what we are all about.
